Submissions

Bateman Books publishes a select range of high-quality books, specialising in Aotearoa New Zealand illustrated non-fiction, commercial fiction and children’s/YA books. We are open to receiving submissions from all genres that have a connection with Aotearoa, with the exception of poetry.

Please email Jemma Moreira jemmam@bateman.co.nz with the subject heading ‘Submission’, and include the following information:

• Synopsis of the book
• Its intended market
• Some background information about yourself and your writing experience
• One or two sample chapters.

If you are submitting a children’s picture book, please include some art samples by yourself or your co-author or, alternatively, please provide suggestions of potential illustrators or illustrative styles.

Please note the books we publish must have some connection to Aotearoa New Zealand, whether it’s theme, content, setting or author connection.

All manuscripts will be considered by the in-house publishing team and you should be contacted within ten to twelve weeks of submission. Please be patient with us because we receive a high volume of manuscripts, which take time to review. If you would like an update on the status of your submission, feel free to email Jemma.
