Author Bio

Jacob Loewentheil is an academic and historian of photography, and one of the world's experts on the portraiture of Marcel Sternberger. His family owns the esteemed 19th Century Bookshop in Baltimore, MD. Phillip Prodger is Head of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Formerly founding curator of photography at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, he has edited books including Darwin's Camera (2009) and curated such exhibitions as Ansel Adams: From the Mountains to the Sea (Royal Museums Greenwich, 2012).
