Description
During the 2020 lockdown, photographer and BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Karni Arieli began documenting her family in pictures. Others did the same, and so the idea for a major international photography project was born. Mothers grabbed their cameras, and Karni decided to start a visual movement. The motivation was complex: to find comfort, to find an occupation that is fulfilling through photography as an art form, to be able to communicate to others without words and feel solidarity, to share everyday life, which can be lonely despite being turbulent. In mid-April 2021, Karni started an Instagram feed called EYE MAMA. The community of artistic mothers quickly grew to over 4,000 and counting. Out of anonymity, this created an unstoppable movement that is now being channelled into a book. “My hope is that this is a look into the world of the home and lockdown that hasn’t been previously seen or pictured.” KARNI Text in English and German.
