Description

Chloe Sevigny is a contemporary fashion icon whose eclectic and daring personal style of “looking cool without looking like you are trying” fashion sense is imitated by legions of fashionistas around the world. Sevigny is a long-time muse in the downtown creative scene for over three decades, beginning in the early ’90s when she modeled for Sassy and soon after when she appeared in a Sonic Youth music video, then starred in the controversial independent movie ‘Kids’. Simultaneously, her quirky and avant-garde fashion sense was getting her noticed by top indie magazines and photographed by the world’s top photographers. Since, she has starred in dozens of films and television series, and has been nominated and awarded multiple awards for her acting performances in addition to starting a fashion label with the trendy global boutique Opening Ceremony.

This inspiring volume is a deeply personal illustrated chronicle of the evolution of Sevigny’s unique style throughout her career: from a teenage skater-girl to the award-winning film actress and fashion designer she is today. The book features early personal photos of adolescent Sevigny photographed by her high school friends; film stills; modeling appearances for high-profile fashion lines such as Miu Miu, Chloe, and X-Girl; magazine editorials for Purple, ID, The Face, Dazed and Confused, Self Service, and Italian Vogue by top photographers such as Mark Borthwick, Terry Richardson, and Juergen Teller, to name a few; and homages by artists such as Elizabeth Peyton and Karen Klimnick. Additionally Sevigny will share some of her treasured personal memorabilia, such as casting fliers, Polaroids, zines, and pages from her day planner journals.

Author Bio

Chloe Sevigny is an award winning American film actress, fashion designer and former model. In 1994 Jay McInerney wrote a six-page profile on nineteen-year-old Sevigny for the New Yorker coining her "The It- Girl" of the moment – a status she has maintained to the present day. Sevigny made her film debut with a leading role in the controversial film 'Kids'. A long line of roles in generally well-received independent and often avant-garde films throughout the decades established Sevigny's reputation as an indie film queen. In 1999, Sevigny won eight acting awards for her first mainstream role in the critically lauded 'Boys Don't Cry'. Sevigny continued acting in mostly independent art house films, such as 'American Psycho' and 'Party Monster'. From 2006 to 2011, Sevigny played a leading role in the HBO television series 'Big Love', receiving a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in 2010. She has also played leading roles in the series 'Hit & Miss' (2012) and 'American Horror Story: Asylum'. Additionally, Sevigny has two Off Broadway theatre credits, and has starred in several music videos. She has also designed several wardrobe collections, most recently with Manhattan's Opening Ceremony boutique.
