Description
Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Indonesia, is the world's largest Buddhist monument, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its unique design, completed in the 9th century, has no equal. The temple consists of nine concentric platforms – six square and three round – containing many miles of intricately-carved stone reliefs retelling the life of the Buddha, the Jataka folk tales, and other stories. At the time of its creation, it was used as a 'multimedia' teaching centre. The monument is topped by a huge stupa representing Nirvana, surrounded by smaller stupas containing statues of Bodhisattvas – humans who have achieved enlightenment.1000 pieces
